In January 2017 I reached an all-time low, physically and mentally. Sadly, My mum was diagnosed with Lung Cancer early 2016 and watching my Mum lose control of her body due to this horrible disease and seeing how it changed her physically and mentally made me realise a lot. It put my whole life into perspective and I knew that I had to make some big changes to my life and that it is only up to me to change and only I can control my life and happiness. I was heartbroken and hit an all-time low with very low self-esteem, I hated how I looked it dragged me down so much to the point where I would cry, I started to become miserable and put on a front each day.
I said to myself at the start of this year that I didn’t want to feel like this any more or to lose control of my body how I watched my Mum do and wanted to be in control of every aspect of my Life especially my health, fitness and wellbeing. I knew I had to then make some big changes to my life and put in a lot of hard work and determination to change what I needed to become happy within myself and how I looked and felt physically and mentally.
That’s when I found Danny Walker, after a lot of researching for Physical Trainers. I was pretty nervous to get started and felt embarrassed about myself. He welcomed me with open arms, made me feel so comfortable and pushed my determination and motivation to achieve all my goals with his sound advice. We had a discussion about my current situation, how I felt and what I wanted in life and to achieve. We conducted my first weigh in and consultation at the end of January 2017, I remember feeling so ashamed having my Before pictures taken, standing on the scales feeling like I wanted to break down how I’d let myself get to this and this is when I knew, it’s time to change my life around. From this day forward I have never looked back. My Life has completely changed around all thanks to my hard work, determination and motivation and from a lot of guidance, support and help from the amazing Danny Walker.
Danny has been absolutely unreal with support and without a doubt, this is by far the best decision I have ever made. Not only has he been such an amazing PT, but when I sadly lost my mum June of this year just 5 months into my PT and lifestyle change, he was such a rock for me, he was always and still is always there for me for shoulder to cry on, gives me sound advice on how to deal with things during this situation and has had a lot of patience with my mental health and my grieving. He has honestly kept my motivation and determination alive and I seriously could not have done any of this so far without him. No words can come close to even describe how amazing he is.
Sleep has been a real pain for me in my 10-month journey so far, this is fuelled by my personal circumstances surrounding losing my Mum. To solve this I took Danny’s advice, used apps to help me sleep, I keep all my personal devices away from my bed at night so there are no distractions, I use chamomile sprays and teas to assist too. I know sleep so much better than I used to, however, this is still a major downfall for me but continues to keep plugging away at this to solve my sleep pattern issues.
I have completely changed my nutrition with so much support and help from Danny along the way. I used to struggle to eat enough and eating the wrong foods in the past, now I know balance is the key and that it’s ok to have bad days and then get right back on track and that Nutrition is one of the most important parts of your journey to a healthier and fitter lifestyle. You need to fuel your body to be able to achieve your fitness goals. Food and water are so important for your body and the saying you are what you eat really is true.
My fitness has always been ok after spending 10 years in the Royal Navy, but since joining Danny it has improved so much and I am now the fittest I have ever been in my Life. The more weight I lose the further I can push myself. When I joined Danny I couldn’t run a mile without stopping at least once, now I can do this without stopping and I have also signed up to run the Liverpool half marathon March 2018 and then the London Marathon in 2019. I could not even do one Male press up, I can now do ten! I am ecstatic at how much my fitness has improved and cannot wait to see how it will continue to improve in my next 12 months with Danny. I have become a lot stronger also.
I feel so much more confident in myself, and how I look physically, and my mental health has improved so much. I no longer have anxiety and don’t feel depressed. Although I am grieving. I have lost 16lb in weight so far, I am 2 Stone 10lb from my goal weight. I have lost 26inches overall from my body and lost a good percentage of Body fat. I can now fit into size 12 jeans and also wear clothes I never dreamed of doing this time last year.
I am not where I want to be yet, but I am a so much closer than I was this time last year, this is due to my hard work and determination and motivation and most of all all the help and support I retrieve from Danny. I seriously cannot thank him enough.
I cannot wait to see where I am in another 6 months’ time. I am extremely happy so far with my complete lifestyle change and I am sure I make my Mum proud every day.
